FAQs

You have Questions. We have answers.

What is Labelcaster?

Labelcaster automates much of the tedious and time-consuming administrative tasks of running a music label business. Through our browser interface or iOS app, you can:

  • Upload and release music to all the major digital music services (DSPs)— Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, Pandora, Tidal, Deezer, SoundCloud, TikTok, Facebook/Instagram, Audiomack, and many more—now over 100 services supported in over 230 territories.
  • Sign and manage artists and collaborators. Setup, sign, track and view contracts right from the app with as many participants and splits as you want per release.
  • See reports of all performances of downloads, streams, and digital performances and corresponding earnings by channel and territory.
  • Automate payouts to all participants directly — no tedious time spent with accountants and spreadsheets. Each artist and participant can have their own account and view reports for their content.
  • Run multiple sub-labels with no accounts or extra costs
  • Recoup of advances/expenses as part of the contract and payouts

We take care of all the time-sinking tasks of administration, so you can focus on the vital elements of your label’s growth—like artist relations, business development and promotions.

How much does it cost to start my label?

Getting started is completely free. Instead of an upfront payment, Labelcaster takes a commission of 10% of the streaming royalties once they come in. There are no additional costs or hidden fees. Our commission covers distribution to all DSPs, contract management, payouts to all participants and reporting. If you succeed – we succeed.

Can anyone get an account?

Anyone can apply for an account with us. We screen every application, and if we think you’re a good fit, we’ll approve the application and welcome you aboard the platform!

How is Labelcaster different from an aggregator like DistroKid or CDBaby?

Labelcaster is different from other services in many ways, the biggest one being that we focus on delivering music for independent labels more than lone artists. Artists are of course using Labelcaster to self publish their music, but our system is built to best serve an independent label with a bigger catalog, more artists and collaborators to take in to account.

Do you have an app?

The Labelcaster service works as an app in any web browser on any platform. If you have an account you can login here

We also offer Labelcaster as an iOS app. Get it on the App Store:

I already have a label, can I use Labelcaster?

You bet! You can transfer any existing catalogue(s) to our system, free of charge, and we will help you to manage a seamless transition. If you want to try Labelcaster out, you can add just a few releases to start and see how it goes, then transfer later if you want (or not). Or, maybe you want to start a sub label, spread your wings a bit. That, of course, works too.

Does Labelcaster distribute music?

Yes. We provide complete label distribution services, distributing globally to all the major streaming services (also known as DSPs) such as Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, YouTube, Pandora, Tidal, Deezer, SoundCloud, TikTok, Facebook/Instagram, Audiomack, Snap, and many more—now over 40 services supported in over 230 territories. You can set up your releases entirely from the web or our mobile.

Why do I need to apply for invite? Can’t I just sign up and get going?

We screen applications to make sure sure the account info is real, and the owner has the rights to distribute music in their catalogs. Everybody is welcome, as long as you have music to release. It takes about two business days to hear back from us once you apply.

What does Labelcaster cost? What is your pricing?

Our pricing model is straightforward. We take a 10% commission fee on all music royalties going through the Labelcaster system. That fee includes all the services we offer—music distribution to all DSPs, contracts handling and archival, reporting, split handling and payments. You pay nothing additional to distribute music. There are no upfront account costs. We have no yearly charges. No add ons.

How much does distribution cost?

For the initial distribution charge, nothing. No yearly account fees or per track upload cost. Unlike others, we charge no upfront fees to distribute music to all streaming services (DSPs). Once your music gets played, Labelcaster does take a 10% commission on the streaming royalties. We take the risk with you. If you succeed – we succeed.

Can I sign artists?

Of course! We have used the best legal expertise around to create label/artist contract templates. The templates are designed to cover the mechanical royalties for each release and the split between each party of the agreement is saved in the Labelcaster system. When the royalties are paid out from the streaming services, our system pays out the royalties based on the contractual split.

All contracts are signed and saved digitally in the our secure cloud service. They are available and downloadable at all times for all parties, fully transparent and fair.

Of course, you also can use your own offline contracts if you wish. and have us handle the splits.🔼THIS SHOULD BE SOMEWHERE ELSE?🔼

You run your label and distribute music from as many artists as you need to. The contracts we provide are not based on Artist career agreements though. It’s an important difference in that we provide license agreements that are tied only to each release specifically. You are of course free to sign your artists to your label outside of the platform, this is totally up to each independent label!

Do I need a registered company to collect royalties?

Nope. Royalties are simply paid out to your user account. Today we do that through PayPal, Revolut, or bank transfer, but we are adding more payout options as we go. Stay tuned…

All that said, depending on your location, you are liable for tax payments on the income you make. It is your responsibility to report it in accordance to your local tax laws.

How do I get paid? How do I pay participants like artists and collaborators?

Labelcaster has automated the payout process for labels and artists. Streaming revenues from the DSP’s are split based on your contractual agreements. Each participant (artists, collaborators, whoever is receiving a share of the royalties) has an account and then sets up how to get paid in our app. We take it from there. As of today, you have the option of being paid via PayPal, Revolut, or bank transfer.

How are royalties split between label and artist?

Labelcaster will ask you to set and agree on a split between the label and participant(s) for each release as you set it up. Each release can have as many participants in the royalties as you like—as long as it all totals 100%. We automatically distribute royalties based on these splits, and provide reporting and payments to each participant.

Will Labelcaster take any of the artist royalties?

Labelcaster takes a 10% commission on streaming royalties automatically off the top. Splits for all participants are calculated after that commission is deducted.

Can I view my sales and data in the app?

We have built a set of dashboards for you. You can see exactly how much each release has been streamed, where it has been streamed and a calculation of estimated royalties. Artists can see the same information on their accounts.
